This dictionary allows you to search using pinyin, English, both traditional and simplified characters, and radical look-up. It also provides breakdowns of each word, as well as the pronunciation.

Baidu is the most popular search engine in China. It works very similar to Google: simply enter a query in the search bar and Baidu will retrieve websites, images, videos, etc. related to that search. But, the results displayed will be different than if you had done the search in Google.
Pro Tip: When searching, use Chinese characters. The results will be more accurate and relevant to what you are looking for.

If you want to connect with your friends living abroad in China, WeChat and QQ are the apps to have. These are two of the most commonly used texting and IM applications used in Chinese.
